Outreach / Training
There are a myriad of factors that contribute to the dynamics that perpetuate domestic violence. Project Safeguard, in our efforts to eradicate domestic violence, collects data, conducts research, and analyzes information on all components related to domestic violence:
- From the number of women who experience violence;
- To the community response;
- To the effects on children;
- To available services;
- To the cost for employers.
The resulting picture from these sources is an informative and frightening collection of reality that we use to develop training and community outreach presentations.
Training Sessions and Workshops
Project Safeguard training sessions are utilized by:
- Law enforcement agencies;
- City and district attorney's offices;
- Court administrators;
- Victim advocates;
- Perpetrator treatment providers; and
- Community Groups: Designed to help individuals identify if a friend or family member may be involved in a toxic relationship and how to help.
- Employers
The focus of these sessions is on the dynamics of domestic violence:
- What individuals might see when attending to an incident;
- How the immediate impression may or may not truly reflect the facts of the situation.
- We help responders learn to recognize the predominant aggressor and to assess the dangers of the relationship as a whole.
- We help them realize that asking the question, "Why doesn't she just leave?" is not appropriate. The real question is "Why does he continue to abuse her?"
Knowing how to appropriately "step up" to assist an abused woman is an empowering act of courage.
